The educational team may be best described as problem solvers and decision makers. The team focuses on a student’s academic and social challenges and identifies solutions through a cyclical process of assessment, intervention and instruction.
Assessment and instruction are most effective when linked. Effective instruction is a marriage between formative assessment and instruction. Progress monitoring is half of this marriage. An overview of the progress monitoring process is presented in this module, specifically in the areas of reading and writing. The principles of progress monitoring can apply to content areas and social development, however, research with deaf or hard of hearing students has not been conducted in these areas.
